Job Description

Your experience, portfolio, patience, and willingness to help others aspiring to become professional pet groomers are essential to success in this position. Prior teaching experience is not necessary, but you’ll need to maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning by bringing students along on a journey, rather than merely demonstrating technique and skill. At Lucky & Lady®, our primary focus is to partner to a pet’s health and wellbeing. The successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of pets, pet coats, and of pet parents. The Pet Grooming Instructor will groom pets daily and will play an important role in creating and maintaining our resort-like environment. This role is a dual teacher and performer role, to both teach our students and service our clients.

As a Pet Grooming Instructor, you will lead a group of apprentices in their education by providing engaging classroom time/lectures, along with interactive classroom grooming activities based on IPG and NDGAA standards. You’ll follow a syllabus and be meticulous in record-keeping, feedback, and appropriate advancement of new employees. You’ll have help and guidance along the way from principals, and you will play a vital role in building or furthering our existing syllabus and curriculum. This is a new position and your feedback and participation will be essential to building a successful program.

Daily duties will include delivering coursework using contemporary teaching strategies and practices; administering written and practical skills assessments; recording student attendance; preparing students for their final exam; and performing other duties as assigned.

Here you’ll help apprentices to understand how to calm anxiety, both in pets and their pet parents, through clear communication, an outgoing and friendly demeanor, and with your talent to find the “show dog” in every pet.

We don’t get “ordinary.” This position requires creativity, demonstrable affection for dogs, and a career-minded candidate able to consult with clients, make recommendations, and educate students toward doing the same. At Lucky & Lady®, we care most about pets and partnering with pet parents toward better pet health. We do not accommodate pet parent requests which will harm their pet(s). Your ability to accommodate requests and alert pet parents to potential health problems will be essential. You’ll help to set the tone in our professional Grooming Spa.

Our state-of-the-art, contemporary Grooming Spa is complete with electric, all-sides access tables; industry-leading cleaning systems; and an easy vacuum system. All work is supported by our Concierge and Remote Reservation Specialist teams, who book client reservations and maintain scheduling.

The Pet Grooming Instructor must be able to navigate our client booking and management software and manage multiple projects at once.

Depending upon the needs of the day, other responsibilities might include cleaning pet equipment, feeding and caring for pets, walking dogs, bathing dogs, doing laundry, cleaning and maintaining the facility, and assisting others when necessary. We are looking for a motivated, self-starter able to work with minimal supervision, but willing to be aided by guidance.

 

Required qualifications

  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience
  • Must regard safety and security as the absolute highest priority
  • A portfolio demonstrating your work results
  • Professional experience/training
  • Strong teaching, supervisory skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of grooming tools
  • Knowledge of dog breeds and standard/show cuts
  • Ownership of professional grooming equipment/tools
  • An exemplary safety record
  • Must have excellent communications skills
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds regularly and 60 pounds occasionally
  • Must be able to stand and move for long periods of time
  • Must be eligible for employment in the U.S.
  • Must simply love dogs
  • Dependable attendance and reliable transportation
  • All team members must be certified in canine and feline CPR and First Aid and we will provide this training

 

Preferred qualifications

  • IPG, NDGAA, AKC or similar certification
  • Previous instruction experience with a proven syllabus
  • Cat grooming experience
  • Previous retail/sales experience
  • Previous customer service experience

 

Lucky & Lady® team members are required to wear and maintain a clean uniform, some of which is provided. Lucky & Lady® is staffed 24/7/365. Team members are generally provided regular shifts but flexibility to work different shifts is required.
