About the position
At Lucky & Lady® improving the lives of pets and the relationships with those who love them is our highest priority. Because well-mannered dogs are far less likely to return to shelters, training is essential to meet our mission. As a Professional Dog Trainer at Lucky & Lady®, you’ll incorporate your experience in positive/rewards-based training with our existing daily platform of pet enrichment and engagement.
Ours is a science-based approach and we don’t believe in models focused on dominance, submission or punishment. To achieve the best results a Professional Dog Trainer should be experienced in training both pets and pet parents to enhance those bonds and build a solid foundation for lasting, loving compliance. Candidates must demonstrate experience and effective communication with clients in both individual and group settings.
In addition to providing individualized training, successful candidates will play a vital role in helping to launch our Play & Train program in conjunction with our existing Enhanced Day Care and Beyond Boarding programs. Our training seeks to grow a pet’s own trust in his or her body language while fostering effective responses to simple commands and improved leash training. Candidates must demonstrate results in resolving more complex issues including aggression and anxiety. Preference is given to candidates with a CPDT-KA®, CPDT-KSA® or CBCC-KA® certification and to those with flexible schedules and the ability to work weekends as needed.
Dependable attendance and reliable transportation are required. Professional Dog Trainers, like all team members, must be certified in canine and feline CPR and first aid and we will provide this training.
Depending upon the needs of the day, other responsibilities may include assisting others when necessary.
Required qualifications
- Must regard safety and security as the absolute highest priority
- Must have excellent communications skills
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds regularly and 40 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to stand and move for long periods of time
- Must be eligible for employment in the U.S.
- Must simply love dogs
- Dependable attendance and reliable transportation
- Knowledge of dog behavior, motivations and specific breeds
- All team members must be certified in canine and feline CPR and first aid and we will provide this training
Preferred qualifications
- CPDT-KA®, CPDT-KSA® or CBCC-KA® Certification(s)
- Previous retail/sales experience
- Previous customer service experience
Lucky & Lady® team members are required to wear and maintain a clean uniform, some of which is provided. \ Lucky & Lady® is staffed 24/7/365. Team members are generally provided regular shifts but flexibility to work different shifts is required.
